{January 28, 2010}   The Best Flix Ever Made

Fantastic movies are definitely not merely tales portraying epic finales or myths that come off as maudlin. Fantastic motion pictures are also not merely about delicate issues or good humor that results in setting your heart aglow. To some degree, the 100 best movies presents a stun executed with complete honesty. A great blockbuster wholly catches the true outlook of the time it was produced. Chiefly in contemporaneous downturn and bitter era, great motion pictures can elevate the psyche of human beings and it is possible that it could precipitate a transmutation.

A phenomenal movie necessarily has to be well-timed. A exceptional case in point might be Danny Boyles Slumdog Millionaire. Boyle has handled important concerns such as women exploitation, vagrancy, law enforcement barbary, and penury. Expounding of these controversial matters at the same time as amusement and reckless vitality appoints Godfather a phenomenal motion picture.

Great blockbusters expand immediately earlier to the first ascendancy of cinema. Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather might be an outstanding instance of a amazing movie produced at the dawn of in the movie yesteryear. Light entertainment flix have also been admired by population throughout the soundless age. Eternal Sunshine keep population charmed. This fantastic motion picture included about pantomime, runs, exploits conducted with vast energy. Gondry’s motion pictures were mostly correlated with a tender element making a amazing blockbuster technique.

There can be found numberless instances of numberless film producers attempting extraordinarily hard to direct stupendous movies. These films entail a advertising troupe plugging away persistently to catch followings. However fantastic motion pictures invariably shock spectators. The components of a model and great flick even now remains a debate. It may be taxing to find since nobody is able to describe a classification of variables that produces a fantastic blockbuster. An adult may at most acknowledge when one examines a significant flick.

{January 11, 2010}   Read this Article if You Like The Fox News Channel

Are you one of the many viewers of the number one Fox News Channel, which boasts to be the leader in network news? Your best source for fair and balanced coverage with many celebrity news commentators weaving the stories with flashy 5-7 segments of mankind’s greatest controversies of our time? Do you watch “The Factor” series and the “No Spin” zone where they spin everything but the cameras and cut off every guest mid sentence? Is there not a more entertaining shouting match on your television today?

Who can beat the show? Flashing lights and better graphics than the pre-presentation at most movie theatres and if it were a flash presentation on the Internet it surely would win awards. You gotta love the Fox News Channel for its biting commentary and sitcom style debates. But is that really news? That is to say does anyone really learn anything? No guest has ever left the show giving up all the pertinent information on any issue? Is that fair or balanced? Is it fair for all concerned? Is there a way we can keep the incredible entertainment value but still get some reality-based news without the skew?

With Bill, Greta, Neil, Hannity, Heraldo, Oliver and that ding dong guy Allen Colmes they have quite a line-up indeed. But is this more about show than news? Do you like the show, but need more substance? Some people don’t as it appeals to their reading level really. But others say, they would like more substance, less commercials, longer segments and less repeating of pre-taped chaos and controversy. What say you? Think on it.

{January 19, 2009}   The Godfather (DVD) Review

Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture, The Godfather was nominated for an additional eight Oscars. The brainchild of celebrated author Mario Puzo, the film is considered the crowning achievement of Francis Ford Coppola’s directing career. With intriguing depth, it provides audiences with a glimpse into the notorious underworld of warring New York crime families. As a result, The Godfather transformed a number of relatively unknown actors into Hollywood legends, among them being James Caan, Al Pacino, and Robert Duvall (all three of whom were nominated for Best Supporting Actor). In addition, Marlon Brando turns in, arguably, the most memorable performance of his career. Certainly among the top five films of all time, an excellent case could be made that The Godfather is the most perfect movie ever produced…

The film opens as “Don” Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) hosts his daughter’s wedding, where he actively entertains his friends and business associates. Vito’s favorite son Michael (Al Pacino) has come home from the war (World War II), and he’s determined to do something different with his life, and his ambitious plans don’t include joining the family business. An idealist at heart, the young Michael seduces his girlfriend Kay (Diane Keaton) with inspiring tales of the fine and upstanding things he will do with his life. Through the eyes of Michael, the audience learns of the family’s various business methods and the hierarchy of its system. Vito’s eldest son Sonny (James Caan) is the heir apparent to his father’s empire. Middle son Fredo (John Cazale) performs his part in the business, but few consider him a possible successor. Providing legal council to the family is Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall), a long-time friend of the family who Michael treats as a brother.

Life is good for the Corleone family until the day Vito is approached by an opportunistic newcomer named Virgil “The Turk” Sollozzo (Al Lettieri), an ambitious leader who aspires to become the number one distributor of illegal narcotics in New York. He asks for the Don’s blessing so he can expand his operations. But Vito sees a big difference between the traditional mafia activities of gambling and prostitution and the less-than-noble profession of selling drugs in schoolyards and family neighborhoods. The Don’s preference for placing family above all else creates a direct conflict with the changing landscape of his business world.

When competing crime families are more accommodating to Sollozzo’s business proposal, the enterprise sparks a deadly conflict between the crime families which quickly escalates into all-out war. Despite Vito’s attempts to put an end to the conflict in its early stages, his beloved firstborn, Sonny, becomes the target of gangland assassination. When an attempt is made on Vito’s life, Michael is drawn into the family business despite his reservations, and the overriding theme of “family first” comes to dominant his life in much the same way it’s dominated that of his father…

A dramatic story of family and change, of youthful idealism and the pragmatism of adulthood, The Godfather is the greatest mafia film ever produced, and perhaps as the best drama in all of cinema history. Al Pacino would soon follow up his masterful performance with The Godfather II, and countless other films in the decades since, forever cementing his place among the immortals Hollywood. As such, The Godfather is a film all movie lovers should see at least one. Widely heralded as one of the best written films in existence, it’s a definite “must-see” for any serious cinema aficionado…

{November 21, 2008}   Coming To America (DVD) Review

In the 1980s, Eddie Murphy manufactured a string of Hollywood blockbusters culminated in his 1988 comedy Coming To America. As far comedies go, this one’s as good as it gets. Clever and witty, its hilarity only grows with time. Unlike most modern day comedies, it doesn’t rely on outlandish physical humor, fart jokes, or other toilet bowl humor for laughs. Instead, it creates a somewhat realistic plotline ripe with one-liners, eccentric characters, and perfect comedic delivery on the part of its cast. Headlined by Murphy, audiences will enjoy an all-star cast that includes such faces as Arsenio Hall, Louie Anderson, Samuel L. Jackson, and many others. Inevitably, any objective viewer would have to rate Coming To America as one of the top five comedies of the decade…

The film follows the life of Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy), heir to the royal throne of Zumunda, who, upon reaching the preordained age of marriage, is introduced to a woman bred from birth to be his wife. But, much to the chagrin of his father, King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones), Akeem raises an objection. After discussing the matter, the king agrees to delay the marriage while Akeem takes a trip abroad to “sow his wild oats”.

Desperate to avoid his arranged marriage and hoping to marry a woman he loves, Prince Akeem reveals his intentions to his servant, Semmi (Arsenio Hall). Semmi agrees to travel abroad and assist Akeem in finding a wife who can be respected for her intelligence as well as her beauty. Spinning a globe, Akeem’s finger lands on the world’s perfect destination for finding a queen - Queens, New York.

In Queens, Akeem and Semmi settle into a rundown ghetto apartment complex and set out to find as many women as possible. When their search is fruitless, an older man suggests they go to church and meet some “good girls”. It’s here that Akeem’s eye falls on Lisa McDowell (Shari Headley), daughter of Cleo McDowell (John Amos), founder of Queens’ most popular fast food establishment McDowell’s (which bares an uncanny resemblance to McDonald’s). Unfortunately, Lisa is dating Darryl Jenks, heir to his father’s hair supply business and the most eligible bachelor in town according to Cleo and Lisa’s sister Patrice (Allison Dean).

In an effort to get closer to Lisa, Akeem accepts a job at McDowell’s where fellow employee Maurice (Louie Anderson) fills him in on the bright future beheld by a McDowell’s employee. Forcing Semmi to work alongside him, Akeem and Semmi help foil a gunman (Samuel L. Jackson) who attempts to hold up the store. As Lisa and Akeem develop a relationship, her father voices his disapproval, viewing Akeem as nothing but a poor immigrant with no future.

When Semmi telegraphs King Joffer for more money, it prompts the King and his entourage to personally visit New York City in search of Akeem. Cleo does a complete one-eighty when he’s informed of Akeem’s identity, but King Joffer is insistent on his son’s arranged marriage…

An ingenious and utterly entertaining comedy, Coming To America ranks highly as one of Eddie Murphy’s best films, if not his best ever. Only Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hours come close to dethroning Prince Akeem and his search for a worthy bride, but neither is quite on the same level with this film and its never-ending parade of hilarity. If you love to laugh, you can’t go wrong with Coming To America, one of the best comedies of the 1980s decade…
