{February 18, 2010}   Should You Play Poker when You Are Bored?

online poker has a few very dangerous pitfalls. One of the most prominent is the fact that many online poker players will plug into a poker game just to past the time. They will play this laudable game just to pass the time because, quite simply, they are bored. There are some very serious flaws with approaching a poker online game like this. It should be obvious to most hardened poker players that a bored player is a less enthusiastic player at the table. This will often equate to missed opportunities, more bankroll losses, and a lower quality game. Why would people intentionally play a game when they know that they are just doing it to pass the time? Why would any want to waste money like that? The truth is that many of these bored, zombie like, players don’t realize that they are turning to poker because they are bored. They many trick themselves into thinking that they are in the best possible state to play a few hands. Be careful, because it is deceptively easy to fall into this trap. Every time you sit down at an online poker table, make sure that you are playing poker because you want to play poker, not because you are bored.

{January 21, 2010}   Code of Silence

Online poker is a game played with incomplete information. The more information you can gain about your opponents, the better you can gauge how to play against them. And, visa versa applies -when you reveal information about yourself, you make it easier for opponents to get a read on you and manipulate their betting.

Smart poker players always watch their opponents carefully, and fish for any information they can get. That’s why you’ll often hear players say things at the table about the hand - they are trying to extract information. The more you talk about your hands and yourself, the more information you are giving your adversaries.

Some of the more common and obvious probing statements are:

* Do you really want me to call?

* Did that bet scare you?

* Will you show your hand if I fold?

* How many chips do you have left?

Often the player is even really looking for answer as much as just trying to get a reaction to see how strong a hand they are up against. Think about it - any good player knows how many chips are in front of each player. They also assume no one would truthfully answer the question about calling.

The best defense is to ignore these probes, and focus on your own calculations and the action that occurred up to that point. By replying, you may give off more tells than you realize. Keep your hand and thoughts to yourself. You do not have to answer the questions, and you create a stronger image by not letting the chatter rattle you. Remember this when you play poker online.

{January 05, 2010}   William Shakespeare Sonnets

Possibly the most distinguished author whosoever put verses from pen to paper, William Shakespeare has been parsed, and analyzed, and contemplated in fashions that might suck the delight out of anybody. But Shakespeare composed, to entertain the unwashed citizenry of Elizabethan England, in addition to the civilized elite group. And he bore a unrivaled power to affect the cores of his audience-often causing them to both express joy and weep at the same time.

Yet William Shakespeare composed not to conceal his ideas below high-minded idioms, but to portion out his wisdom to those close to him, in formulas that were playful, and likewise as profound. We ascertain in his dramas in addition to his verse, that he is able to reorder phrases, and their established organizations seemingly at will, attaining an unrivaled formulation of meaning. In his sonnets, whilst some arrangements come from the demand for a rhyme, the outcome is just about the most endearing rhymes that have been recognized by English lit.

The sonnet was one of the most recognizable and plentiful forms of verse used during Elizabethan times, and throughout the European countries. Shakespeare chose the sonnet because it allowed him so much artistic freedom to work with language in the way that he did best. Sonnets allowed for unlimited transitions, and flexibility in emotional expressiveness. Using sonnets as his chosen medium, allowed him to end, or move forward with his chosen themes or motives (as long as he was in keeping with iambic pentameter). And he often moved his thoughts forward throughout quatrain division as well.

Most typically, sonnets contemplated a miserable lover, torturing across the contradictory emotions of lust and idealized passion. Shakespeare’s sonnets frequently express greater contradictions also, demonstrating a counterpoint between beauty and cold-blooded truth, hope and misery. The integrated anatomy called for discipline and creative thinking, but with these differences William Shakespeare the Sonneteer could research his innermost ego, in practically the equivalent method that the monologue of a thespian would expose the psyche of a fictional character on the stage. Yet Shakespeare the creative person was frequently buried between the lines of his words, and notwithstanding the enticement of modernistic scholarly people, we have learned very little about the gentleman himself to draw in any steadfast determinations about this from the lines of his verse.

{December 22, 2009}   Hand Analysis: Pocket Fives

Pocket fives are also known as snakes and as the speed limit (referring to the common speed limit of 55), as well as the term Presto, for a popular card club that used to be at 55 Victoria Street in the UK. Pocket fives are the kind of poker hand you really want to see the flop with, as when you flop a set you’re going to usually be gold. Folding small pairs preflop hurts, but is correct when there is a raise and a reraise in front of you, as you may be up against bigger pairs.

Pocket fives are probably the highest of the small pairs, as I’d call sixes a middle pair. Some poker online players like to come over the top of a raise with small pairs like this, whereas others prefer to call and try to see the flop before they commit any more of their chips. Pocket fives dominates pairs 2 through 4, and are dominated by pairs of 6s and up, preflop.

Pocket Fives is also the name of a popular online poker information website that tracks tournament rankings, poker theory, and forums. It’s a great place to run your research while you are playing online and looking for something to pick around on.

{December 07, 2009}   Mulittabling STT SnGs

There are several advantages to multitabling poker Sit-n-Gos. So let’s go over them, shall we? First and foremost the poker online Sit-n-Go math is hinged on the Nash equilibrium. Simply put, the nash equilibrium is a strategy in poker that is unexploitable. And it’s going to pop up later in this article so pay attention. If you have an optimal strategy, you don’t gain from having a less optimal strategy (i.e. changning your strategy) so you keep with what you would normally do. We’ll get back to this in the late game. So when you’re multitabling, you get two main advantages. You get to play more playable hands since you’re seeing more online poker hands, and you decisions are easy. You’re either raising or folding in the early game. Early game is tight, so unless you’re premium, you have no need to put chips on the line and play a big pot unless you have a monster. The exception to the rule is with small pocket pairs in late position. You may limp them for set value early. See, SnGs are all about watching the others beat each other up, and with multiple tables open, you get to sit back, make your reads, and wait for your opportunity to strike. In the middle game, you’ll open up a little since you’ll have your reads, and you’ll be playing more marginal hands in position, but you’re still at the raise and fold stage. It’s almost useless to go after a toss up hand and chase in a SnG since the variance is so low. Finally we get to the end game. The blinds are sky high and the stacks are short. Here Nash comes into play again. If you’re playing the simple decision strategy, then your objective it to push or fold. With such high blinds, almost no one is going to have a viable chip stack, so you can feel confident that with your tight image and your knowledge of the nash equilibrium, you’ll be able to either a) steal blinds easily with any shove, or b) shove profitably with decent hands at a short handed table. And since the decisions are so easy, you can play multiple SnGs at one time and still not make fatal mistakes like you might in a ring game.

{July 21, 2009}   Serious Bowling Tips: Ditch the Used Bowling Shoes

I regularly hear from an occasional bowler willing to treat your neighborhood bowling league competitively for the first time. Should that be your goal, this is major cross-roads in growing as a real student of the game. My guide to bowling perfection stand as essential reading. Pros from a nearby bowling pro shop are there to assist their customers develop bowling zen mental toughness. Just like a lot of sports, roll strikes if can spare ‘em (hehe). I kid. I admit, bowling is a simple game with not-so simple details. It’s all good, our bowling experts get you rolling your way.

No use putting it off, get a knowledgeable friend to help you purchase tailored equipment at your bowling pro shop! It’s not a sales pitch, it actually matters. There’s a reason its our number 1 recommendation, get your private ball fitted, and you’ll never go back. A correctly fitted bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. Of course another critical matter is benefiting from quality bowling shoes that smell fresh, look good and help your foot work.

Now that you went ahead and acquired the right supplies, listen to the number two bowling tip: aim how the pros aim. As you face the pins, don’t actually aim for your actual target, the pins. Aim for the the notches on the lane like a barrel of a gun. What’s the point? It is easier to aim for a point a good deal nearer. To take full advantage, include it as part of your routine to line-up at the exact spot 4 steps from the foul line on every attempt. Roll from the same place, in the same way and you can make small adjustements on your accuracy and angle.

What do you make of hooks, to get ball handling and velocity? It is the third-most essential bowler tip. The secret is the their expensive reactive resin balls. Most professional bowlers travel with at least two bowling balls to roll amazing hooks, depending on the type of game and lane. But greenhorns might want to work with just one, and steer clear of a ball that weighs a ton. Many pro bowlers opt for bowling balls made for special resin expert grip. Steer clear of them, because these special-made balls often make even moderately good bowlers appear a fool. With these tips you’re on the right track. I’ll be back with another 3 shortly.

My family and I play for our team (the “Strykers”) made up of a league for our marketing business just outside Las Vegas. I provide advice to aspiring bowlers at my blog and in the pro shop. Lastly, I should give a shout out to my bowling buddies at the center. Sorry I can’t be there.

{June 30, 2009}   Folding Signs-Betting Patterns

Falling in love with your hand is a terrific way to give away all of your money in poker online. Folding isn’t the most fun part of poker, but it is definitely one of the most important in this jeux de casino. Knowing when to fold will help you save yourself some chips, and enable you to fight again another day. Basically, just because you’ve got high pair with a great kicker doesn’t mean you own the hand. When your online poker hand is at risk, be observant of what your opponents are doing. If there’s a chance that your hand is broken, you’ll know by how the players are betting.

Get to know your opponents and they’ll tell you when to fold-aggressive players who act meek may be looking to trap you, and tight opponents will tell you with an uncharacteristic raise.

Many players who see these signs decide to stay in the hand because they’ve gotten too attached to their cards. Sometimes pocket Aces look great, even when there are four cards to a straight or flush on the table and your opponent is throwing his stack at you. It can be hard to throw away your hand, even when you know it’s beat, but if you see the signs, toss your cards and win the next hand instead.

{January 20, 2009}   Stock in the Poker Market

The World Poker Tour has long been part of the NASDAQ trading sphere, trading under the name Intermix Media, Inc. However, with a senior partner Lakes Entertainment, INC looking to break from the poker company and shares falling below 1.00 USD per share, the new CFO Thomas Flahie is having to deal with the same problems that many other smaller businesses are in the current economic downturn.

In August, WTP, INC received a letter from NASDAQ that their company was on the verge of delisting. NASDAQ requires that shares meet the 1.00 USD minimum to continue to be listed and traded on their network. Yesterday, the stock closed at just over .50 USD. NASDAQ gives companies 180 days to become compliant with their listing requirements else face removal from the trading list.

Currently WPT has used up about 45 days, so they still have quite a bit of time to get their finances in order.

And WPT CEO Steve Lipscomb remains optimistic about the poker company’s ability to rebound on in the stock market. The plan is to switch the focus away from their online gaming market and work more with sponsors and advertising. After all the WPT has expanded into the global market recently and has a highly coveted television audience.

For the sake of our gambling and poker brethren we hope WPT can get it together and weather these trouble times, keeping the gambling market open and strong for the people who enjoy so much the fruits of the labor that WTP and other’s like them have given to us.
