{March 31, 2009}   Why Pursue Your Degree Online?

Distance education has been around longer than people may realise. A system which teaches students without requiring that they actually be present, distance learning was pioneered in 1946, by the University of South Africa, which continues to offer distance education courses today.

Initially called ‘correspondence courses,’ these programs were created to provide primary and secondary education to students living in remote areas. These programs were expanded to include higher education and, with the advent of the internet, students can now work with their instructors via email, videophone, or web conferencing.

Why should you choose to earn your degree online? The answer can be summed up in one word: convenience. Unlike traditional degree programs, students are not required to physically attend classes, which means that they can work around their job or family schedules. If you are working full-time but want to further your career or even change professions, online education is right for you. While some universities offering online degrees have a set class schedule, many do not. You can simply log-on to the course website and either listen to audio and video lectures, or participate in a live discussion via chat. This allows you to manage your time- both in and out of the ‘classroom’ more effectively.

If you’ve made the decision to get your degree from a virtual university, it is important to make sure that the degree course for which you will apply is valid and that the qualification is accredited. There are many diploma mills, which will issue you with a qualification or degree, for a fee. Simply pay the tuition and the degree is yours. While this may seem like a tempting offer for some, it is not worth risking your professional future, by simply buying your qualification. Getting a college degree takes a lot of hard work, regardless of whether you are in or out of a classroom.

{March 30, 2009}   Doing Time in Bankruptcy Court

Insolvency proceedings are a legal action registered by an individual who is not able to pay her debt as agreed. Once filed, all current civil proceedings associated with the mortgage will be stopped. Consequently, legally, a home loan lender has to stop all collection processes including, but not limited to, foreclosure. However, a mortgage company may ask for relief from the required stay, and once it is granted, can go on with the foreclosure action. Bankruptcy will not halt foreclosure and you must still repay your loan. Going into bankruptcy can not resolve the root problems, it only makes the foreclosure go forward slower.

Many times, individuals will have to pick between filing financial insolvency or allowing their home loan lender to foreclose their house. If monthly or bi-weekly home loan payments are not received as scheduled, the financial institution will eventually file a foreclosure on the property. The single guaranteed way to halt foreclosure from happening is to make a payment to the lender on time. Home loans are much like automobile loans, if you cannot make your payments you always will get it repossessed. It will be very same for everybody who has not been able to pay their mortgage; the mortgage holder will foreclose on the loan.

While insolvency is not going to permanently obstruct foreclosure, it allows a person more time to pay back the over due or at least makes it little less difficult to to repay a lender. Insolvency proceedings requires that a mortgage to freeze foreclosure actions, a debtor will have a bit of time to raise the cash necessary to pay the lender. The last resort for any home owner to declare bankruptcy when the debtor is totally incapable of to meeting their lenders’ commitments. Under insolvency, some unsecured debts will in all probability be dismissed but the real estate loan will remain. The home owner has to be ready to repay the mortgage inside the mandated time as the debt is secured by real property. Also, Chapter 13 bankruptcy has a schedule of fees that will be court ordered, that will allow the borrower make payments on his home loan to get up to date on their balance.

Not everybody meets the standards for insolvency and if the borrower does qualify, there will be legal fees incurred. Possibly, it may cost the borrower more in legal fees than if they were to just bootstrap it and continue with making home loan payments. If you are of the mind that declaring bankruptcy might be a solution to the problem, a good lawyer might be capable of answering any questions you have. Because insolvency is extremely complicated, house owner really ought not attempt to do it without help from a a professional.

This is not legal advice. Find a bankruptcy attorney in your particular state for bankruptcy advice advisement.

{March 30, 2009}   Zimmer Durom Hip Lawsuits Not Great for Patients

Many of the people who got defective hip implants applied in their hip cup replacement surgical processes are determining that there are complications that far exceed the regular expectations for recovery. These patients are experiencing a lot of needless anguish for lengthier time periods, facing revision surgeries and enlarged medical costs, and losing income by not being able to work at their regular occupations. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is demanding that that their hip cup implant is not malfunctioning and say it is not their fault for the faulty surgical procedures, some people are filing cases against them and taking settlements.

In the month of October, 2008 Zimmer announced that it had set aside $47.5 million to pay for claims filed against them. Many MD’s have some issues that the hip implant device is as good as the company says it is. In fact, when Zimmer offered up online training to surgeons in order to teach them what was supposedly more precise techniques for doing the implant surgery, roughly 50% of the MD’s refused to take part. Thus, the whole situation remains to be stressful for all patients attached, but none more than the hundreds of unfortunate people who are looking forward to revision surgical operation due to the problems with their implant coming loose in the socket.

These troubled unfortunate people definitely deserve some help and restitution which obviously is why product liability attorneys are suggesting and telling them to start the lawsuit process. durom cups has been resolving these claims before they go to court. Nonetheless, even if the payoff they are being offered seems like it could be a air settlement, in many cases patients are deciding too quickly and with no allowance being made for on-going troubles if they return. Without waiting to find out what cases are actually going to be worth, individuals may find themselves ending up paying alot more money from their own pocket when further complications arise.

Anyone who realizes they do have a claim against Zimmer may consider looking into it. If you believe you could qualify, you should probably call a attorney to be certain. Look for a firm that covers across the nation and focuses on processing litigation against malfunctioning medical devices. This law firm has done the extra work and setup a special division to research and handle the claims against Zimmer and obtain nice sized settlements for their clients.

If your orthopedic physician tells you that you’re going to need revision operation to fix your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, contact an attorney as soon as humanly possible.

{March 29, 2009}   Surviving School

Well, I finally finished my 1st semester of college and I think I did really well.
I am pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, possibly with a minor in psychology.
I absolutely love school and now often wonder why I didn’t go back sooner.
I think school has made me a lot more independent if that is possible. I do love it.

I have learned a lot and met a lot of great people. I have many friends now and they are real friends that I know I can count on, friends I am sure I will have throughout my life.
I am also taking two summer classes and really can’t imagine myself being out of school at this point.
I may end up being one of those people that stay in school forever..lol.
No, I don’t love it that much. The independence and freedom I feel from attending and the confidence in knowing I can accomplish something is remarkable.

I feel anyone considering it should really go for it , what do you have to lose, besides that the people you meet and the opportunities given you by going are fantastic.
I have made some great connections with instructors in my area/field and people in general that will help me when my degree is finally obtained, and you cant beat that.

Most of my friends and some family have went back to school also and say it has changed their lives and they think it is something to do that advances you in life regardless of the career and major you choose.

I personally am thinking of being a detective or investigator, but I also love working with kids that are in trouble so that may be the direction I take. I guess it is a long haul for me in deciding exactly what I want to do but I am right on track, and when my 2-4 yrs is up, I will have made a final decision. I would just like to encourage anyone thinking of going back to school or going for their first time to take it, the support from classmates and instructors is great, and I know you can do it and you will accomplish your dreams. Good luck and God Bless Ya.

To Dakota, my biggest fan..I love you
To God and Jesus: Thank you for everything and the many blessings that have befallen me. My love always

{March 28, 2009}   Elevate Energy Easily …. AND Without Moving!

This article reveals an easy to do exercise that helps create (and store) positive energy in your body leaving you feeling refreshed and revived.

Now, if I said to you

“Act like a corpse!”

you would be forgiven for wondering if I needed help! Also, you may wonder what that has to do with energy creation.

Well, it is the body position that is the key. It allows total relaxation and this permits us to focus on ‘pulling’ in energy to our midsections and then, through the use of visualisation of certain colours, makes us spill over with radiant, positive, light.

———————
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
———————

Many people try to relax or meditate in positions they see in films or on T.V. where the person is often kneeling, cutting off the blood supply to their legs, while being ‘quietly’ introspective!

This is a problem that need not exist. You don’t have to kneel. You can stand. You can walk. You can lie. Ask yourself this question.

“How can I calm my mind and body if I am in pain?”

The answer is you cannot. So try the corpse pose for something that allows one to easily and quickly get into a meditative state. It allows a person to lie, totally at ease, and this leads to better, deeper, energy creation and thus makes it a great choice for many people.

—————–
THE CORPSE POSE

—————–

1. Lie on your back somewhere that provides total comfort.

2. Have you eyes closed so you can easily begin to use

your creative visualisation.

3. Inhale a light, vibrant, colour (of your own choosing) into

your belly. Allow it to remain there even after your exhale.

4. With each subsequent inhale you add to this colour.

5. It fills all your body gradually. Approximately six breaths

should suffice.

6. During the final couple of breaths feel and sense the energy

spilling out of your body. You are immersed in it.

7. As you slowly come out of this meditation allow the energy to

stay with you as you go about your day.

{March 27, 2009}   Perception

My friend Donald said to me one evening, “this is what I admire about you, whenever you say you’re gonna to do something, YOU DO IT”! People always ask me how do I stay motivated? How do I stay encouraged? Whenever I am asked this question my answer is always the same. I tell them that I stay focused and motivated by remaining in an autopilot mode. However, when I ponder that question on a deeper spiritual level, I come to the realization that the true answer is much more involved than the “auto-pilot” response. Would you like to know what the real answer is? Keep reading.

For those of you that follow my writing, you may have read a story that I wrote entitled Zenobia’s Life Lessons A True Testament of Love. In that narrative, I briefly tapped on the fact that I once lived in a shelter. How I ended up in a shelter in the first place was because my job downsized and relocated to Atlanta. My employer offered me the chance to keep my job by moving with the company, but unfortunately, they only offered financial relocation assistance to the higher ups. So there I was. Two young children to support and the future for employment looked grim.

I applied for unemployment and ultimately had to apply for Welfare for the first time in my life. During this time, I began to prepare my children to live in a place that in my opinion at the time, was the worst case scenario in the WORLD. My children were about 7 and 8 years-old. I knew how impressionable young children were at that age, so it was acute to their emotional development the manner in which I informed them of the news.

My children and I used to have what we called “family rap sessions”. These sessions took place once per week, usually after dinner while sitting in a circle on our living-room floor, or during dinner seated at the kitchen table. My children grew to love and look forward to these sessions because it gave them the opportunity to vent to me anything, in any manner (remembering that I was still the parent of course), and I could and would not reprimand them for what we discussed afterwards. We simply would talk and I would offer suggestions and solutions for them to handle any of the small problems that a child would encounter at their young age. I learned years later that this was the enzyme for the open relationship that I maintain with them to this day.

This is when I broke the news. We would be moving soon so I paid careful attention when describing the shelter to them. It was significant that they quickly developed a positive outlook on where their new home would soon be. I centered their attention on a few of the key things that they could do while living there that I disallowed or did not provide to them while living in our home. I figured that this was a way to encourage them to become excited about our move.

I told them what happened with the job and that we had to move out of our apartment soon. After each of them asked me where we would be moving to, I described this wonderful place, where kids could all play together after school (my children were “latch-key kids”, and weren’t allowed to go outside after school having to come home and do homework). I described a place where they would get unlimited food and snacks, (I never bought sugary; drinks and limited the amount of snacks that I kept in the house). I told them how we each would have our own beds (they used to share a bed), and they would get the opportunity to meet and play with other boys and girls. At the shelter, bedtime was moved back an hour later to 10:00. If you have ever been 7 or 8 years-old, when a parent tells you that your bed and playtimes were going to be extended, that was more than enough reason to look forward to going to this place wouldn’t you think?

The “Place”. That is the code-name we agreed to use when speaking about the shelter (I trained my children to be really good at keeping a secret, and they were. I am sure that this was due to the fact when I was young, I was such a BLABBER mouth. As a result of growing up and understanding the significance of “keeping a secret”, I developed an inbred disrespect for those who could or would not keep their mouths closed.). That was our code word used when we were discussing the shelter amongst people that we knew. I did not want anyone to know that we were living there. I was ashamed. During this time, no one ever found out. I was extremely mortified for being in that situation and I was still trying to come to grips with hitting rock bottom and having to go there in the first place, even though my children adjusted impressively well.

Until I had to experience life in a shelter as an eyewitness, I looked at those who lived in these alien places and wondered what happened in their lives that put them there? That would never be me, or so I thought.

Usually when you hear the word SHELTER, at least for me, I envisioned and related those places to the types of people that I expected to live there. People taking food from garbage cans, dirty, grimy people begging for money, bodies covered with paper bags while lying on park benches. Others sleeping in subways, walking the streets pushing shopping carts filled with what appeared to me to be nothing more than garbage. Not realizing that to the person pushing the cart, the contents often held their entire life. How do those sayings go? One man’s garbage is another man’s gold? Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes? No truer sayings were ever penned.

I learned from this experience just because you live, and maybe even sleep in the street, does not necessarily mean that you are dirty or grimy for that matter. You just do not have a descent place to call home. The average person is just a paycheck away from being homeless anyway aren’t they? That is what I was told most of my life.

Immediately, and I mean “as soon as I put my hand on the doorknob to open the doors” to the “Place”, I began to see just how wrong my perception of the homeless and shelters really were.

“How did I get here?” I asked myself, as I led my children inside. I was neither dirty nor grimy. I did not beg others for money. My body was never covered with paper bags to shield the evening wind from my person, nor did I push a cart filled with what appeared to be garbage. I just did not have a place to live. I became one of the very people that I grew up loathing. I was one of THEM now. I had become one of the homeless. TALK ABOUT THE SHOE BEING ON THE OTHER FOOT!!!!

Life was always and continues to be my BEST teacher, coupled with final exams that are powerfully honest.

I remember for the duration of my stay at the “Place”, especially around shower time, when my children would play and eagerly jump into the stall to wash their little bodies, I stood in the shadows as a guard ensuring no harm would come to my little life sources. Nonetheless, after the little ones were snuggled in bed, I too stood in the shower. However, I was not lathering my body to simultaneously relieve my mind of the tribulations that I contended with day-to-day as I should have. Nor was I luxuriating in the gratification that one feels as you allow the rhythmical current of warm water to cleanse away your “9 to 5″ anxieties. Uh-uh. Not this time. Want to know what I was doing? Crying.

I knew in order for my children to continue to have a “positive perception” of the “Place”, I had to become their compass. Subconsciously they received their direction of how they were supposed to feel about living in this new environment from my actions and/or reactions. Hence, I had to put on my game face. I had to be ready to play my “A” game “e-a-c-h”-and-”e-v-e-r-y” morning. Miraculously I trained myself to remain in autopilot mode. I did not allow myself to think about what had to be done. I just did whatever had to be done for the emotional betterment of my children. I did not want them to walk away from the “Place” feeling “less than” or “not as good as” because they had to live in a shelter. I did not want them to feel the shame and guilt that I was saturated with 24-7. After all, I was the adult. I was supposed to be able to rationalize my situation and handle it wasn’t I? I was supposed to take charge, make everything better. Essentially, on the outside I performed as though my stay there was as gratifying as drinking an ice-cold glass of lemonade on a lazy, muggy Sunday afternoon. I should have won an Academy Award for my performance.

For weeks each night, while everyone was fast asleep, in the darkness, I stood. Barefoot, in the corner of a damp, rusty, stale smelling shower stall, swallowed up by my aloneness, I cried. I stuffed my washcloth deep inside my mouth to muffle my robust sounds of hopelessness. I would repeat this late night ritual for the duration of my stay at the “Place”.

My children never knew the anguish and torment that I withstood because of our living arrangement until approximately several years later when I decided to once-and-for-all justify us living in a shelter. I was still harboring guilt for placing them in such a place. Even then, years later while sharing and clarifying my grief to them, I cried. This time we all wept together. They were growing up. They understood.

The real answer to how I stay motivated and encouraged is due to my perception of life. The way I perceive life is indicative to the way that I respond to life’s challenges. During my stay at the “Place” life so affirmatively atoned me in an earth shattering way. Today, when faced with a situation, a task, or a problem that initially appears to be too much for me to handle, I am reminded of my stay at the “Place”.

Today, I ALWAYS ensure that I have a job, I ALWAYS ensure that I have my OWN house or apartment. I ALWAYS try to exude a “rock-of-Gibraltar” persona when forced to mesh with life’s ups and downs. I have to. There is no alternative for ME.

In conclusion, I believe if a person can live on the streets and survive off of the remnants found in the pit of a garbage can, if they can, make gold from discarded junk and generate heat to warm their bodies from plastic and/or paper bags on a day-to-day basis, my life and the slings and arrows and uncertainties that I must brave are as easy as taking candy from a baby. My perception in and of itself, is what motivates ME to survive.

How you view a situation dictates the outcome. Perception is everything. Whether you want to believe it or not, and everything is perception.

{March 26, 2009}   Choosing the Right Content-Authoring Tool For Your e-Learning Needs

There are several hundred e-Learning tools out in the marketplace today. Selecting the proper course-authoring tool for developing your company’s online training content is no small undertaking. Today we are going to look at some solid strategies to help you select the course-authoring tool that is right for you and for your company’s e-Learning / Learning Management Systems initiative. First we will start with some basic concepts.

What is a Content-authoring Tool?

According to Wikipedia.org, “a content-authoring tool is a software application used to create multimedia content typically for delivery on the World Wide Web. Content-authoring tools may also create content in other file formats so the training can be delivered on a CD (compact disc) or in other formats for various different uses. The category of content-authoring tools includes HTML, Flash, and various types of e-Learning authoring tools.”

Course-authoring tools can create online courses, while content-authoring tools create subject specific online content. Subject Specific Online Content more than likely has less features and functionality than an online course created with a course-authoring tool, but, this depends upon the software used to create the content. In the e-Learning industry, we generally use the two phrases interchangeably, and in this article, I will do so also.

What is a Learning Management System?

Learning Management Systems (LMSs) are web-based software application platforms used to plan, implement, and assess learning processes related to online and offline training administration and performance management. LMSs provide an instructor a way in which to create and deliver content, monitor learners’ participation, and assess student performance. LMSs also provide learners with interactive features, such as threaded discussions, web conferencing, discussion forums, and other methods of communication.

Generally, a Learning Management System has its own online content-authoring tool as part of the overall system. There are content-authoring tools / systems out there in the market that call themselves “Learning Management Systems”, but really are just front-end and / or presentation-authoring tools, with little or almost no LMS functionality. A good Learning Management System should work with many types of content-authoring tools.

In fact, many companies may start out using one or two content-authoring tools along with their Learning Management System. As their e-Learning initiative grows and changes over time, they use different types of content-authoring tools to achieve the various effects needed. This is often due to business changes and the fact that in many corporate training scenarios, a Learning Management System or other larger, more complex enterprise software systems use content-authoring tools to develop the online training content that is managed.

What does SCORM/AICC compliant mean?

SCORM stands for Sharable Courseware Object Reference Model (SCORM), which is a set of specifications that, when applied to course content, produces small, reusable e-Learning objects. A result of the Department of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative, SCORM-compliant courseware elements are easily merged with other compliant elements to produce a highly modular repository of training materials.

AICC standards apply to the development, delivery, and evaluation of training courses that are delivered via technology. AICC stands for the Aviation Industry CBT [Computer-Based Training] Committee (AICC), which is an international association of technology-based training professionals that develops training guidelines for the aviation industry.

Many e-Learning content-authoring tools are SCORM/AICC compliant. A rule of thumb is, as long as the content-authoring tool is SCORM/AICC compliant (creates SCORM/AICC compliant courses) and the Learning Management System is SCORM/AICC compliant (works with SCORM/AICC courses), they will work together.

Factors to Consider When Evaluating Content-authoring Tools

Situational Parameters

Remember that not all tools are appropriate for all training delivery methods. It’s important to consider the context in which course-authoring tools will be used. As you gather information, keep in mind that as long as your online training is founded on good instructional design principles, the interactivity produced by the authoring tool you choose will strengthen the learner’s experience.

Training Objectives & Delivery Methods

What type of training are you providing? Is it a blended learning experience? Will some training be online and some in classrooms? This will help determine which course authoring tools and LMSs you can use. Will you provide training on a CD Rom? Are your learners certifying on a product, service, or procedure? Are you teaching someone to use a certain software program?

Media Needs

What types of media will you use? Does the content-authoring tool of your choice support those file types?

Resources and Ongoing Support

Do you have the resources to support the types of online training you wish to develop? Graphic designers? Appropriate subject matter experts? Voice talent? Video producers? Models? Production Designers? Outside user testing? Etc.

What about after the training is developed? Does the training need to be refreshed periodically, anywhere from in 6 months to a year or beyond? Will any tests associated with the training change on a regular basis? Will you have the right resources and support in place for any ongoing e-Learning content development needs?

Funds & Timing

How much is budgeted for the project? Will you have a team of people to develop the training? Should you outsource? What things are specific to the type of training you will be developing that may be compromised by outsourcing? How steep is the learning curve associated with the tools you are thinking of using for the project?

Interactivity

What level of interactivity is required for the training? Simulations and other dynamic learning activities are great to have, but are they really appropriate or needed for the type of online training you will be developing? Flash has become the standard tool used for many interactive learning activities. If your authoring tool works with Flash, how much more do you need?

Plug-ins

Some course-authoring tools may need plug-ins, but this has become much less of a problem in e-Learning today than it was just a few years ago. Obviously, if you are dealing with a group of learners who are not technically savvy, have older browsers (IE 4.0 or below; Netscape 4.0 or below), or mostly use slow dial up connections, plug-ins become a real liability in regards for delivering online courses.

Platforms

What platforms will the training be delivered on? Does the online training you develop have to work across a combination of platforms such as PC, MAC, UNIX or others? Does it have to work across a variety of operating systems and / or browsers?

Total Cost of Ownership

It’s always best to evaluate any software or systems acquisition by looking at the total cost of ownership (TCO). TCO is a financial metric designed to help assess direct and indirect costs related to the purchase of any capital investment, such as (but not limited to) computer software or hardware. In this case, the TCO would include the cost of the application, training, upgrades, maintenance, and any other costs associated with the company owning the product over its lifetime.

Conclusion

The course-authoring tool that best meets your needs will depend entirely upon your situation. In the long run, applying due diligence during the evaluation process will save you time and money.

{March 22, 2009}   What Do You Favour the Spanish Lotto or the Euro Lottery

In Dec 2008 elotto added the Spanish lottery to its product range, affording players globally a vastly improved chance of partaking in this super Spanish lotto prize fund.

If its the first time you have come across the Spanish Lottery, let me highlight just how measurable this lottery is to the big majority of the Spanish population. The Spanish lotto has been a national obsession in Spain for a very long time with enormous interest generated by the Christmas lotto draw every year. Believe it or not 98% of the population play this Spanish National lottery every Christmas.

There are a couple of great reasons why so many Spanish subjects join in the Christmas El Gordo lottery draw.

First, there is the inducement of the biggest lottery prize fund of any worldwide lotto game - with over 2 Billion Euros! Second, there are in excess of thirteen thousand money prizes to be won. Finally, the probability of picking up a money prize in the Christmas lotto draw are a highly attainable - one in six.

With the amount of interest that is given to the Christmas El Gordo lotto draw, lots of people are oblivious that there is five extra Spanish Lotto draws each year as well. These games happen on March, May, July, January and November. Despite the fact that these 5 lottery games do not boast the big prize fund of the Christmas lotto draw, they are sizable nonetheless, ranging from seventy eight million Euros to six hundred & sixty six million Euros. Plus, these games provide virtually 3 times as many prizes as the Christmas lottery draw and betting odds of picking up a money prize of an awesome one : three.

The Christmas Spanish lottery functions in an unusual way to nearly all other worldwide drawings. A whole ticket ‘billete’ is really expensive, costing two hundred Euros. However, these lotto tickets are divided up into 10 ‘decimos’ (tenths) costing 20 Euros each.

When purchasing your lottery tickets you have the option of purchasing 1 decimo, a complete ticket, or a portion of a lotto ticket. If you do not purchase the whole lotto ticket, someone else will purchase the remainder of your ticket. For Instance, when you buy 2 decimos, someone else purchases 3 decimos and someone else purchases five and your lotto ticket wins one thousand Euros, then you will collect two hundred Euros, 300 Euros and 500 Euros respectively. Owing to the expense of purchasing a full lotto ticket, it is not uncommon for households and acquaintances to incorporate their lotto money and each buy a separate ‘decimo’ 10th.

{March 19, 2009}   College Freshman: How to Get Over Homesickness

Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, studying abroad or going to college in your hometown - it’s natural to have a period of adjustment when you leave home. Experiencing new things and meeting different people can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Sometimes, it can make you feel a deep desire to return to the people and situations you know best.

The good news is that homesickness goes away eventually. As you gradually get used to your new surroundings, you’ll grow more comfortable. You’ll also gain a sense of confidence and independence by knowing that you can learn to adjust. Here are some tips to help ease your transition.

Accept that things will be different, but different isn’t bad or wrong. Part of maturing is learning to be flexible in different situations, so this is all part of the process of preparing you for a fantastic future.

Bring a piece of home. Pack special items that remind you of home and give you comfort like your pillow, stuffed animals, pictures, posters, music, and specialty food items.

Focus on what you’re gaining. Instead of thinking about everything you’re missing, focus on what you’re gaining by being away. Think about all the new experiences you can share with friends and family when you return.

Know that you’re not alone. Everyone who is new is in the same boat so find a buddy to go exploring. Walk around and learn the campus and city. The more familiar you become with your new surroundings, the more your feelings of homesickness will fade.

Keep in touch. You’re never more than a call or click away from friends and family. Make an effort to explore and learn new things about your environment so you can share your experiences with them.

Get involved. Join a club, study group, or find a part-time job that will get you involved with other people. Knowing that you will see the same faces and interact on a regular schedule helps a lot.

Plan a visit. Invite friends and family to visit you and act as their tour guide. It also helps to schedule a trip back home, but avoid going home every weekend. You’ll gain more confidence by sticking it out and finding new things to do.

Talk about your feelings. Homesickness is natural. It doesn’t mean you are weak, only that you have experienced love and security in your home life - and that’s a good thing! If you find you are having trouble coping, talk to a friend, roommate, RA, or a campus counselor. It’s important to acknowledge your feelings rather than keep them inside. You are definitely not the first student to experience homesickness, and by sharing what you’re going through with others, you’ll find even more ways to start to adjust.

{March 19, 2009}   Naturopathic Schools

NATUROPATHIC SCHOOLS instruct in Naturopathic medicine which is an holistic approach that relies on natural remedies altogether. Sunlight, air, and water are thought of as natural healers; this, along with nutritional supplements and massage therapies are all part of naturopathic medicine.

Naturopathic Schools are usually comprised of a four-year degree program with prerequisites closely resembling those of conventional medical schools. Earning your degree in Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine is the ultimate goal through naturopathic school training.

Naturopathic Schools require four years of study in medical sciences including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, laboratory diagnosis, cardiology, neurology, radiology, minor suregery, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, clinical and physical diagnostics and other clinical sciences as well.

Additionally, naturopathic schools offer training in naturopathic therapeutics, botanical medicine, homeopathy, natural childbirth, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and naturopathic manipulative therapy.

Naturopathic schools do provide programs for financial aid, including state and federal loans, scholarship programs, and other financial assistance as well. (As each school varies in financial programs, please check with financial officers prior to enrollment.)

If you are interested in attending naturopathic schools or would like to find a naturopathic school near your area, feel free to check Holistic Junction’s Healing Arts’ Schools’ directory for a naturopathic school today.
